Find out why credits were charged
Trace every change in your credit balance through the ledger, and the common reasons a balance drops more than expected.
Your credit balance only changes through an append-only ledger, so every credit that left your balance has an entry that says when, why, and who or what spent it. If the balance is lower than you expected, start with the ledger. Most surprises have one of the explanations below.
Look at the ledger
Open the credit history
Go to Settings → Billing and open Credit history. You can also click the credits meter at the bottom of the sidebar, then Manage plan.
Filter the period
Choose the dates when the balance dropped.
Read the entries
Each entry shows the type (Grant, Purchase, Charge, Refund or Expire), the amount, the reason, the teammate or API key, and a link to the search or reveal it paid for.
Through the API, GET /credits returns the balance and the most recent entries.
Common reasons
Each page of search results is a credit
Every page of results costs 1 credit, including page 2, 3 and beyond. Scrolling through ten pages of a broad search costs 10 credits. Narrow the search with filters first, so the first page has what you need.
Teammates and API keys share the balance
Credits belong to the workspace. A teammate's bulk reveal, or an integration using an API key, spends from the same balance. The ledger names the person or the key for every charge.
To see API usage, look for entries whose actor is an API key. If an integration is spending more than you expected, check how often it searches, or switch it to a test key while you debug. Test keys never spend credits.
Charges followed by refunds
A reveal reserves 1 credit and refunds it straight away if no verifiable contact is found. In the ledger this shows as a Charge and a matching Refund a moment later. The net cost is zero. If you only look at charges, a batch of reveals can look more expensive than it was.
Plan credits expired at renewal
Plan credits reset every billing month and don't roll over. At renewal, the ledger shows an Expire entry for whatever was left, then a Grant for the new month. If you look at the balance just before and after, the drop can look like a charge. It isn't: those credits were due to expire. Pack credits never expire.
An upgrade replaced your plan credits
When you upgrade, your remaining plan credits are replaced by the new plan's full monthly amount. The ledger shows an Expire entry for the old balance and a Grant for the new one.
The trial ended
When the 14-day Growth trial ends without a subscription, the workspace moves to Free, and your plan credits reset to Free's 25 a month.
Plan credits went before pack credits
OmniLead spends plan credits before pack credits. If you bought a pack and your plan credits fell, that's by design: it uses up the credits that would expire first. Your pack balance is untouched until plan credits run out.
What's never charged
You're never charged for:
- Revealing a contact that the workspace has already revealed.
- A reveal where no verifiable contact is found.
- Anything that fails because of an error on our side.
- Filters, match scores, provenance, CRM work, imports, exports, sequences or API calls other than search and reveal.
If a charge is wrong
If you find a charge that doesn't fit any of these, for example a second charge for the same contact, contact support. Include:
- The date and time of the charge.
- The ledger entry's reason and reference, or a screenshot of the entry.
- What you were doing at the time.
We'll check it against the ledger and restore any credits charged in error.
Can I stop teammates from spending credits?
Not by role today: every member can search and reveal. Agree a process in your team, and check the ledger, which names who spent what.
Can I get an alert before credits run out?
The credits meter turns amber when your plan credits get low. On Agency, the credits.low webhook fires when the total balance drops below 10% of your monthly credits.
