Why a contact can't be found

The common reasons OmniLead shows no email or phone for someone, what you can try next, and why you're never charged for it.

3 min readLast updated

Sometimes a reveal comes back empty, or a result says No contact found. That's OmniLead refusing to guess. This page explains the usual reasons and what you can do.

The organization doesn't publish contacts

OmniLead finds emails on the pages organizations publish themselves: team, about, contact, impressum and footer pages. Many companies publish only a contact form. With no published addresses, there's also no pattern to learn from.

What you can try: reveal someone else at the same organization whose role is published, or use the organization's general contact channel and ask for the right person.

The site asks crawlers to stay away

If a site's robots.txt disallows crawling, OmniLead doesn't crawl it. The same goes for pages behind a sign-in or a CAPTCHA. That's a deliberate choice: OmniLead only collects what organizations make openly available.

What you can try: check whether the organization publishes contacts on another public source, such as a filing or a conference speaker page, and add the contact yourself with its source.

The domain is catch-all and nothing is published

On a catch-all domain the mail server accepts every address, so a pattern-ranked guess can't be confirmed. If there are no published addresses on the domain to learn the pattern from, OmniLead has nothing it can stand behind, so it shows nothing rather than a guess.

What you can try: if you know the person's address from a real conversation, add it manually. It's marked Added by you.

The person has no public, professional footprint

OmniLead only lists people who appear in public, professional sources: a company team page, a Form D, a publication, an award record. Someone who appears nowhere public won't have a contact in OmniLead, and that's intended.

The provider isn't connected

Some sources need an API key: Google Places, SerpAPI and OpenCorporates. If your workspace hasn't added them, OmniLead shows Connect provider where those sources would have contributed. Contacts that only those providers could find won't appear.

What you can try: ask a workspace admin to add the key in Settings → Workspace.

The person opted out

Anyone can remove their data from OmniLead through the public opt-out portal. Once they do, they disappear from search in every workspace and their address is suppressed. OmniLead won't show them again, even if their details are still published elsewhere.

The data is outdated at the source

If a person left the organization but their old page is still live, OmniLead may find an address that then verifies as Invalid. The credit is refunded, and the result is flagged so it isn't offered again.

The verification service is unavailable

If the verification step can't reach the recipient's mail server, the status is Unknown rather than empty. That's a timing issue, not a missing contact. Re-verify in a few hours from the lead's email menu.
