How the public opt-out portal works

How anyone can remove their own data or phone number from OmniLead at /privacy/opt-out, and what that means for your workspace.

4 min readLast updated

OmniLead is built on public professional data, so the people in it deserve a simple way out. Anyone can go to omni.cloudgens.net/privacy/opt-out, prove they own an email address, and remove their data from OmniLead. The removal applies to every workspace, not only the one that contacted them.

This page explains the process for the person opting out, and what you see in your workspace when it happens. You can link to it from your own privacy notice.

For the person opting out

No account is needed and the process takes about a minute.

  1. Open the portal

Go to omni.cloudgens.net/privacy/opt-out. It's linked as Opt out of our database in the footer of every OmniLead page, and Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information leads to the same process.

  2. Enter your email address

Type the address you want removed and click Send code.

  3. Check your inbox

We send a six-digit code to that address. It expires after 15 minutes. Only someone who can read that inbox can finish the request, which stops anyone from removing someone else.

  4. Enter the code

Type the code and click Continue.

  5. Choose what happens

Pick Remove my data to delete your contact details from OmniLead and block them from being added again, Suppress: never contact me to keep your address out of every outreach sequence, or Remove my phone number to delete a phone number. Then click the button to confirm.

The confirmation page shows what was done, for example how many workspaces stopped outreach to the address. We also email a confirmation.

What removal does

When a verified request completes, OmniLead:

  1. Adds the address to the global suppression list, stored as a one-way hash so the list itself doesn't hold readable addresses.
  2. Removes the person's contact details from OmniLead's search directory. Their profile is replaced with "Removed at the person's request" and never shows in search results again, even if a public source still lists them.
  3. Removes the address from every workspace's leads and from the provenance stored with them.
  4. Stops every active or paused sequence enrollment for that address, in every workspace.

This happens within seconds of confirmation. We're required to act within 30 days under GDPR and 45 days under the CCPA, but there's no reason to wait.

Remove a phone number

The portal also removes phone numbers. After verifying their email address, the person picks Remove my phone number, enters the number with its country code and clicks Remove my number. OmniLead then:

  1. Adds the number to the global phone suppression list, stored as a one-way hash like email addresses.
  2. Deletes the number from every record in OmniLead's search directory, with its provenance.
  3. Clears the number from every workspace's leads. The rest of each lead, including its email, stays.

Providers, website crawls and imports can't add the number back to the directory. If a workspace imports it later, it shows Do not call there. A phone removal doesn't unsubscribe the person's email address; they can choose that separately.

Because the request is verified through an email address rather than the phone itself, each network can remove at most five numbers a day. Larger requests go through privacy@omni.cloudgens.net. See Calling and do-not-call lists for what customers see.

What your workspace sees

When someone you've saved as a lead opts out through the portal:

  • The lead stays in your CRM with its notes and history, but the email field is cleared and the lead is marked Opted out globally.
  • Active enrollments stop with the reason Global opt-out, and the lead appears in the sequence's Skipped list.
  • The unsubscribe.created webhook fires with scope: "global" if you use webhooks.
  • You can't re-add the address by hand, import or API. Attempts are saved without the email and flagged.
  • When someone removes their phone number, it's cleared from the lead's Phone field. If it comes back later, for example in an import, it's marked Do not call and can't be dialed from OmniLead.

You don't need to do anything. If you keep your own records outside OmniLead, such as a separate CRM, remove the person there too.

Do Not Sell or Share (CCPA and CPRA)

Under California's CCPA, as amended by the CPRA, residents can tell a business not to sell or share their personal information. OmniLead makes professional contact information available to its customers, which can count as selling under the law, so every public page carries a Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link that leads to this process.

A request through the portal covers this right: once verified, the person's information is no longer made available to any OmniLead customer. We honor it for anyone who asks, wherever they live. Authorized agents can submit a request on someone's behalf by writing to the privacy address below with written permission from the person.

Requests we get by email

People can also email privacy@omni.cloudgens.net instead of using the portal. We verify the request the same way, by sending a code to the address in question, and complete it through the same process.

Can a person opt out and later opt back in?

Yes. They can write to privacy@omni.cloudgens.net from the same address, and we lift the global suppression. Individual workspaces still need their own lawful basis to contact them.

Is this the same as unsubscribing from my emails?

No. Unsubscribing stops email from one workspace. The portal removes the person from OmniLead as a whole. See Handle unsubscribes and suppression for the difference.

Can I link to the portal from my own emails?

Yes. Some teams add it to their privacy notice as a way for people to remove data that came from OmniLead. Your own unsubscribe link still has to be in every email.
